Geology

The property is located in the central zone of a Cretaceous volcanic belt at the margin of a large intrusive body of magnetic tonalite represented by a significant airborne magnetic anomaly.

Although the Spanish mined gold on the island as early as the 1520s, gold production in the Dominican Republic was insignificant until 1975 when the Pueblo Viejo Mine was discovered.

The Central Cordilleran is the host to the world class Pueblo Viejo Mine deposit which lies approximately 50 kilometers to the east of the property. Pueblo Viejo is the second largest high sulphidation gold deposit known after Yanacocha in Peru. The Pueblo Viejo Mine produced 5.4 million ounces of gold and 24.7 million ounces of silver from oxide and transition ore between 1975 and 1999. The original oxide reserve was 27,000,000 tonnes grading 4.23 g/t Au and 21.6 g/t Ag with a cut off grade of 1.4 g/t Au. Mining stopped when sulphides were encountered.
